What is Write A Book in a Day?
‘Write a Book in a Day is the ultimate test of teamwork, challenging writers to create something great within a 12-hour time period. Prizes and awards are up for grabs for state and national winners, while there is also a need to fundraise in the lead-up for childhood cancer research.
Teams of 5-10 participants choose any day between 1 May and 30 September to write and illustrate an entire book. Each team will be given unique parameters for their story for their chosen writing day, ensuring that no one gets a head start!
Every book submitted will also be made available for free to kids in hospitals around Australia, potentially changing a child’s day in hospital, while funds raised will work to get them out of hospital and back in the classroom sooner.’
Our wonderful St Mary’s teams have already raised almost $2000!! The Organisation is aiming for $1millon this year, and is almost there. We have until the end of September to find donations, so if you would like to contribute, contact a Year 6 parent!! Go to the website to find out how the money is distributed.
The creative sparks were flying yesterday for Write a Book in a Day with two teams entered this year. Beginning at 8am, the teams were excited to hear the parameters of each of their books. Lead by their dedicated leaders, Mrs Derrin and Miss Skye, they had the 6 Chapters and illustrations drafted before 3pm. With breaks and snacks of fruit platters and gelato, the PerfectPens and CrackerJacks were on track to have their submissions ready to submit by 8pm. What a feat! Well done Year 6 and thank you Mrs Derrin for organising such a wonderful experience.
