What’s Been Happening In Stage 2 Turtle Class?
Maths
The students have been showing what they know about our current data topic and our previous fractions topic in many different ways. One of our fractions tasks was through Seesaw, where the students were required to first divide the whole object into a set number of parts. Then they represented halves, quarters, thirds and fifths as lengths on a number line. Many students used the recording button to show their noticings about equivalence and multiples. The recent data task allowed the students to show their understanding of using place value to read and order numbers, whilst also representing data, using a scale suited to their ability level.
Religious Education
During our Religious Education lessons we studied the Parable of ‘The Good Samaritan.’ The students then worked in pairs and small groups to recreate the story through role play and pictures. The whole class book of this retell can be viewed in the Office foyer, however Meilani’s final picture here about loving others, showed the students thorough understanding of the inherent message of this Parable. We ended this focus with a class liturgy and it was wonderful to hear the students examples of Good Samaritans that they see in the world today, many of which were in our school community.
Science
The students have been working with a partner and applying their researched knowledge about the Sun to design and create a quiz using algorithms (steps) and branching. It was impressive to see how well the students conducted their online research on the Sun and used their algorithm to create a Kahoot game with a partner. Each pair now has a Kahoot game that they are excited to host live at the start of each of our upcoming Science lessons. We were far too busy having fun during this process and I kept forgetting to take photos, but here are some of the algorithms and one of Tully and Willow’s first questions in their Kahoot game.
Creative Arts
In Week 2, the students and Mrs Frost were excited to have Mrs Molloy, our resident Quilling expert, come and join us for our Mother’s Day art. Mrs Molloy commented on how well the students shared the resources and used their lovely manners. She was also impressed with how many students applied the basic quilling technique, to make other creative images including bees and butterflies. We would like to thank Mrs Molloy for sharing her home collection of Quilling resources and expertise with us.
