Today is International Friendship Day.
It ties in perfectly with our Catholic Social Teaching -Solidarity. The theme for this year is Embracing Diversity, Fostering Unity.
International Friendship Day holds significant meaning as it underscores the value of friendship in our lives. Friendships are essential for emotional support, mental well-being, and personal growth. They provide a sense of belonging, reduce stress, and contribute to a happier, more fulfilling life.
Celebrating Friendship Day allows us to express gratitude to our friends, acknowledge their importance, and strengthen the bonds that hold us together. It's a reminder to cherish and nurture these relationships, recognizing that friends are the family we choose for ourselves.
SOLIDARITY Everyone belongs to one human family, regardless of their national, religious, political and ideological differences. We are called by the principle of solidarity to take the parable of the Good Samaritan to heart (Luke 10:29-37), and to express this in how we interact with others.

Our data showed that families were wanting to put faces to our staff, particularly those who are new to our school. I have attached a recent profile to this newsletter so you can connect who the people are who are working at school on a regular basis. We will keep this profile updated and send it out again when people change.

The hand model of the brain was developed by Clinical Professor of Psychiatry Dr Dan Siegal and provides a simple and relatable explanation of what happens physiologically when we experience the fight or flight state. This model has helped students to understand what happens when our emotions become overwhelming and we “flip our lid” (our cerebral cortex goes offline and our “emotional brains” dictate our behaviour). During sessions we have discussed that everyone experiences emotional overwhelm from time to time which has helped to normalise this experience and encouraged an empathetic approach. We are a Food Allergy Aware School. Your cooperation would be appreciated in talking with your children about the importance of not sharing food or putting any food items close to another child. We are requesting that families talk to students about the importance of not playing with food and sitting to eat.
