Make getting students to school on time every day a top priority.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Ensuring that students arrive at school on time every day is crucial for their academic success and wellbeing. Parents play a crucial role in instilling the importance of punctuality in their children. Here are some strategies for parents to make getting students to school on time every day a top priority:
- Establish a Consistent Routine. Set a daily routine that includes specific times for waking up, getting ready, having breakfast, and leaving for school. Consistency helps children develop good habits.
- Model Punctuality. Children often learn by example. Demonstrate the importance of punctuality by being on time for family events, appointments, and other commitments.
Limit or Have No Screen Time in the Morning. Minimise distractions such as excessive screen time in the morning. This helps your child stay focused on getting ready for school without unnecessary delays.
Understanding food allergies and anaphylaxis
We have students in our school who have food allergies and some children who are anaphylactic to foods. Please read through these slides who were made for us by a family member of one of our students. There is valuable information in here for everyone. We can all help.
You can check out the slides via Canva with this link too;

Premier’s Reading Challenge has started
ePlatform is again the Digital Partner of the 2024 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. Their generous contribution provides our small school with additional online resources. ePlatform recently launched a NSW curriculum-aligned Decodable Reader Program which is included at no cost to participating schools.
- https://nswprc.eplatform.co/ will give you access to 2000+ eBook titles to help you complete the challenge. This platform allows students to borrow 2 eBooks at a time from the dedicated PRC platform.
In InitiaLit, our Reading and Spelling program in Year 2, we have been learning about Informative texts in our Reading Comprehension component. We have been learning about the structural elements and purpose of an information text, and we have discovered loads of interesting facts about Kookaburras through our focus. Mrs Dunn is even learning new facts!
Florence: “I’ve learned that Kookaburras can’t be seen in some places- they can camouflage”.
Tully: “I’ve learned that Kookaburras live in certain places in Australia”.
KLA Groups- Visual Arts
Every week K-2 are in mixed groups as they engage in various Key Learmomg Areas. We have been exploring line work and self portraits during this time. The students are using different mediums to create their artworks and are producing their own interpretation of the task.
Religion
Each week Year 2 participates in meditation during Religion time. The students are very reverend and reflective.
Within the past two weeks we have had many different sporting events.
We had 16 children represent St Mary’s at the Zone swimming carnival in Maclean on the 26th of February. Everyone went in all their events and participated well. The children were very encouraging and supportive of each other while their teammates were swimming. Hunter Lynch-Gale made it through to the Diocese of Lismore carnival in the Under 13’s 50m swim on the 1st of March. We are very happy to say that Hunter has made it through in this race to the next stage for polding in Homebush. Congratulations to all our swimmers!
On Wednesday the 28th of March we had two mixed teams of Year 5 and 6 represent our school in a local NRL Gala Day here in Bellingen. They competed against many teams including Urunga Public, Repton Public and Bellingen Public. They won most of their games and worked well as a team. They had a lot of fun and showed a lot of enthusiasm and sportsmanship. It was great to see them all having a go in the game.
