Last Wednesday was Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.
The word Lent comes from the Old English word ‘lencten’, meaning spring - the time of new life in the northern hemisphere. To move toward ‘new life,' fasting and prayer are practised in Lent as remembrance and reflection of our Lord’s fasting in the wilderness.
This Lent, in fasting and giving, let us also think about what it is to take; what it is to discard others; what it is to deny the ‘least of our brothers and sisters.' Please consider Catholic Mission and Caritas as charity options.
The theme for this year’s Caritas Project Compassion is ‘For all future generations’ and their website includes resources for prayer and reflection as well as ideas for what and how we can give to others this Lent.

Pupil Free Days will be advised at a later date.
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Help your child to learn that going to school on time, every day is important.
Reinforcing the idea that attending school regularly is crucial for a positive school experience. Foster a love for learning by encouraging your child's natural curiosity.
Help your child to see school as a place to explore new ideas, discover interests, and develop a lifelong passion for learning. Foster positive social connections at school by encouraging friendships. Knowing that they have friends to look forward to can motivate children to attend school regularly.
Reminder - Please advise the school if your child suffers a concussion outside of school hours (e.g. while participating in community sport). This will assist everyone in being able to provide the necessary care for your child.

Year 6 is off to a flying start to 2024 both in and out of the classroom. The class are currently enjoying the Australian classic ‘Storm Boy’ as the focus for their writing unit. The students have begun to develop their own settings and characters for their very own novels using a range of language devices such as metaphor, simile and personification. There are many young and upcoming authors in Year 6 and it has been wonderful to see their creative minds at work. After working so hard in the classroom, Year 6 had the opportunity to release some steam at the annual St Mary’s Swimming carnival. What a way to spend a Thursday and everyone is to be congratulated on creating a fun and encouraging vibe. Lastly, Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed guiding their Kinder buddies through the first few weeks of school. We are having lots of fun making crafts and playing games during our weekly catch up.

Our Swimming Carnival was a great event with children getting involved, families coming along to support and staff running a well-organised event and having a great day.
